Spritz is setting sail for Portugal, marking the beginning of a new chapter for BITE Project. A real sailing relocation across the Mediterranean and into the Atlantic, open to anyone who wants to experience life aboard, learn by doing, or simply discover whether living on a sailboat is the life they’ve been dreaming about.

Some journeys begin the day you cast off.

Others begin years earlier, almost without you noticing.

For us, it all started the day we decided to buy Spritz, a little over 10-metre sailing boat that gradually became much more than a way to travel. She became our home, our office, our workshop and, above all, the place where we learned what life at sea really means.

Since then we’ve sailed countless miles, dealt with breakdowns, replaced an engine, upgraded systems, made mistakes, learned from them and tried again. Every voyage became a small experiment. Every harbour taught us something new.

Looking back today, it feels as if everything we’ve done so far has been one long testing phase — a huge beta test for the life we had imagined.

Now, at last, it’s time to begin for real.

A new home base, not a new destination

Over the coming months, Spritz will leave Bari and relocate to Portugal.

Many people have asked us:

why Portugal?

The answer is simple.

Because it’s not a destination.

It’s a starting point.

The Mediterranean taught us how to sail.

The Atlantic opens up entirely new possibilities.

Madeira, the Azores, the Canary Islands, Brittany, the North Sea and, perhaps one day, even the Caribbean are no longer distant dreams marked on a chart. They are realistic routes waiting to be explored.

Moving Spritz also means moving the centre of our lives somewhere that makes those adventures possible.

It’s the first real step of a project that, until now, has mostly existed in our minds.

The journey before the destination

The relocation itself will become part of the adventure.

Our planned route starts in Bari, follows the coasts of Apulia and Calabria to the Strait of Messina, then continues towards Palermo and Trapani. From there we’ll cross to Sardinia, sail north along Corsica, reach the Ligurian coast and continue along France and Spain all the way to Gibraltar.

Once through the legendary Pillars of Hercules, we’ll finally enter the Atlantic Ocean before sailing north along the Portuguese coast towards Lisbon.

Of course, that’s only the plan.

Anyone who has spent time at sea knows that wind, weather and sea conditions constantly change. Some legs may become longer, others shorter, and some may change entirely.

And honestly…

that’s exactly what makes sailing so special.

Why we’re opening this journey to others

When we first started thinking about buying a boat, we asked ourselves a very simple question.

“Are we really sure this is the life we want?”

The obvious answer seemed to be: let’s try it.

Except it wasn’t that easy.

Finding a genuine opportunity to experience life aboard turned out to be much harder than we expected.

On one side there were charter holidays — perfect for a week’s vacation, but very different from actually living on a boat.

On the other, there were short tourist cruises lasting only a few hours.

What we were looking for was something else.

We wanted to experience everyday life afloat.

Working remotely while at anchor.

Cooking in a tiny galley.

Managing fresh water, electricity and weather forecasts.

Living in a small space.

Sharing responsibilities.

Simply finding out whether this lifestyle was really right for us.

We couldn’t find that experience anywhere.

So we decided to create it ourselves.

Who we’re looking for

If you’re looking for a luxury sailing holiday with every detail carefully planned, this probably isn’t for you.

But if you’ve ever seriously wondered what it would be like to live aboard a sailing boat, work while travelling, or simply spend longer periods at sea, then we’d love to hear from you.

You don’t need a sailing licence.

You don’t need previous sailing experience.

What matters most is curiosity, adaptability and a willingness to learn.

Spritz is a 10-metre sailing boat. She’s comfortable, but she’s also a real floating home, not a luxury yacht. Life aboard means sharing spaces, helping each other and adapting to the rhythm of the sea, which rarely follows our schedules.

We’re not looking for passengers.

We’re looking for people who genuinely want to experience this way of life, get involved and perhaps discover whether it’s something they want for themselves.

Before investing significant time, money and energy into such a life-changing decision, we believe everyone deserves the chance to experience it first.

We can’t tell you whether this lifestyle is right for you.

But we can offer you the opportunity to find out.

How to join

Inside our Logbook, you’ll find the complete route together with every individual leg of the journey.

You can explore each section, learn more about it and apply to join us for just a few days or for several weeks.

Each participant contributes towards the sailing costs of their chosen leg through a transparent calculation system we’ve developed inside BITE Project.

Food and personal expenses will simply be managed together on board, just as they would be in any real cruising crew.

Whether you’d like to join us for a long weekend or several weeks at sea, you’re free to choose the part of the journey that inspires you most.

The first chapter

This article also marks a new beginning for BITE Project.

From now on, we won’t simply publish stories once the journey is over.

We’ll live them, document them and share them mile after mile.

We’ll write about the successes, the mistakes, the unexpected moments, the discoveries, the people we meet and everything that usually remains hidden behind a beautiful photo on social media.

Because we believe travelling is about much more than reaching a destination.

It’s about the people you meet along the way.

In a few weeks, Spritz will leave her berth in Bari.

On paper, it’ll simply be a relocation to Portugal.

For us, it’ll be the beginning of a completely new chapter.
